My five-year-old daughter has been crazy about jiu-jitsu from the moment she met coach Cody. I am so happy to have found a supportive, inclusive environment for her to start learning the ropes. She loves it so much, the whole time we were on vacation this summer all she could talk about was how much she missed jiu-jitsu. I really appreciate Cody’s gentle and clear instruction, with the right amount of challenge and fun.

I signed up for Jiu Jitsu at Train Stop with my 5-year-old son because I realized that I’m always encouraging him to try new things, but he rarely sees me as a complete beginner. This felt like the perfect opportunity for us to step into something totally new—together. It’s turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve made. For my son, it’s been incredible to watch him grow. He’s always enjoyed wrestling at home, but now we have a shared language to roughhouse safely and with intention. When my son gets distracted in class, Coach Cody knows just how to bring him back in—and I can see him learning something new every time. Coach Cody is a very impressive athlete as well as a dad to both a 5-year-old and a 13-year-old, he gets how to teach kids—he meets them where they are and makes class both fun and focused. His older son trains with the adults and is already an amazing young teacher, which speaks volumes about the environment Cody’s built. For me, this is hands-down the most intense workout I’ve ever done, but what surprised me most is how mentally challenging Jiu Jitsu is. It really feels like a physical game of chess—learning openings, building strategy, adapting moment by moment. It’s a rare and powerful combination of physical intensity and mental demand, and it keeps me fully engaged and challenged every class. Stepping onto the mat with people who are going to try to submit you is intimidating, but at Train Stop, the environment is incredibly kind, supportive, and respectful. It’s a true community, built on mutual trust and growth. Train Stop Jiu Jitsu has become a place where both my son and I can grow, challenge ourselves, and share something meaningful—side by side.

I have been been enjoying Cody's approach to teaching. His approach to training makes things fun while still getting the work that is needed in. I would recommend for anyone wanting to get into jiu jitsu, or some one trying to change up the way they have trained in the past.

Trainstop Jiu Jitsu is a breath of fresh air to the Martial Arts and Dutchess county communities. Coach Cody creates a welcoming atmosphere to any and everyone. He helps each person find their own individual Jiu Jitsu and martial arts path. Red Hook/Tivoli and the rest of Northern Dutchess county gained a huge asset with the opening of Trainstop Jiu Jitsu. Cody, the coach, owner and black belt, has unparalleled passion for jiu jitsu and helping others train. It shows through his focus on working with experienced individuals to hone in their skills while also making newcomers feel welcome. Bring the kids to a class too! Get them moving and started young through the youth program. Great addition to Tivoli/Red Hook and northern Dutchess County.

Cody’s an awesome teacher for both kids and adults at all levels. A black belt who’s got a process that’s intense but methodical. He listens and recognizes what his individual students need to work on within the group system and helps correct their techniques in real time. Great dude, great instructor, great crew from all over the Hudson Valley to roll with. ✊🏼

Cody is an incredible teacher. He's obviously a whiz at jiu jitsu, but what makes him so special as a coach is that he takes such a genuine interest in his students. He cares deeply about the people around him. For Cody, it seems like jiu jitsu is equal parts for body, mind, and community. I give Cody and his gym my highest recommendation. If you're looking for a place to learn jiu jitsu and be in great company, check out Train Stop JJ.
